About

Tricia Mulder has been passionate about complementary therapies since she discovered the amazing results Bowen Therapy had on a chronic injury she had suffered years prior. She went on to study this technique and has been a qualified therapist since 2013.

She completed the Diploma of Specialised Bowen Therapy in 2016 and has made it her life goal to improve the health and well-being of as many people as possible through this modality. She has undertaken additional studies in Neurostructural Integration Technique (NST), The Importance of Symmetry and the McGloughlin Scar Tissue Release technique which is a wonderful accompaniment to Bowen Therapy or as a standalone treatment.

More recently Tricia’s passion and belief in the benefits of complementary therapies has led her to complete a Diploma of Remedial Massage and further studies in myofascial release techniques and body reading. Tricia is a member of the Association of Massage Therapists.

The transformations she has seen in patients over the years continue to astound her as to how such gentle therapies can have such profound results.

Outside of work, Tricia is a mum to two very active children and loves spending as much time outdoors and at the beach with the family or exploring our beautiful natural surrounds while trail running.

Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy was developed by the late Tom Bowen (1916-1982), who practiced in Geelong, Australia.

Bowen Therapy is a very gentle yet powerful healing modality addressing the cause, not just the symptoms of pain and dysfunction through gentle moves made over muscles, tendons, fascia, ligaments, joints and nerves. These sets of moves or ‘procedures’ used in a Bowen session facilitate the release of the fascia which surrounds muscles, organs, bones, nerves, arteries and veins (and also acts as a communication network throughout the body) as well as catalyze a shift in the Autonomic Nervous System from a sympathetic state (fight or flight) to a state in which the body can rest, relax and heal itself (parasympathetic).

Bowen Therapy can address both acute and chronic conditions and provides profound and often long term or permanent relief for many specific injuries and other health problems. It is also great for relaxation, stress relief, boosting energy levels and lymphatic drainage.

As it is so gentle, Bowen Therapy can be used to treat babies, the elderly and even pregnant women.

A Bowen Therapy session will typically last between 30 – 60 minutes.

What can Bowen Therapy treat?

Following are just some of the
conditions Bowen Therapy can provide fast and long term (or permanent) relief
from:

  • Back pain and sciatica
  • Headaches and migraines
  • TMJ and upper respiratory conditions
  • Neck and shoulder pain, including
    frozen shoulder
  • Hip, knee, ankle and foot problems,
    including plantar fasciitis
  • Sporting injuries
  • Tennis and golfers elbow
  • Carpal tunnel and RSI
  • CFS / fibromyalgia
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Hormones and fertility
  • Digestive issues
  • Pregnancy related issues
  • Bedwetting

What happens in a Bowen Therapy treatment session…and after?

Bowen moves are performed through clothing or sometimes directly on the skin and generally while you are lying on the therapy table. One or more procedures will be performed in a session and after performing each procedure the practitioner will pause and move away for the required amount of time (generally 2 minutes, or more if required), allowing your body time to respond and start adjusting. Many people feel different sensations during and after a Bowen Therapy session, some include tingling or areas of warmth/cold, tension or emotional release, increased energy levels or deep relaxation, improved posture. It is important to remember that every ‘body’ is unique and each person will respond differently.

It is very important to be well hydrated prior to, and after a Bowen Therapy treatment as this improves the body’s response to treatment.

It can take up to 7 days after a treatment for the Bowen treatment to fully integrate with the body therefore it is advisable not to have any other form of bodywork performed within this time.

McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release (MSTR)

Scars may have a significant influence on our presenting problems.

They can cause: • restrictions in the fascia • reduction in blood and lymph flow • weaken muscular strength • reduce the flow of energy • inhibit joint movement.

They may feel and look unpleasant and may even upset us emotionally due to the traumatic events that created them.

McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release® is an amazing advancement in the treatment of scar tissue and is changing people’s lives.

This technique is used by healthcare professionals for:

  • Caesarean section scars
  • Hysterectomy scars
  • Spinal surgery scars
  • Trauma scars such as those typically found on the knee
  • Head wound scars
  • Mastectomy scars
  • Amputation scars
  • Underlying scar tissue from laparoscopic surgery

Success has also been reported with burns scars in some instances!

After a MSTR treatment clients may feel a reduction of numbness, pain, burning, itching, reconnection with areas of the body that they had felt disconnected from (particularly Caesarean section scars), improved range of motion, and reduced appearance of the scar.

This technique is however not limited to scars, it may be used in the treatment of frozen shoulder, planta fasciitis, carpal tunnel, Dupuytren’s Disease and Axillary Web Syndrome.

Testimonials

For more than two years I suffered from a painful heel and foot condition which my doctor had diagnosed as plantar fasciitis.

The constant sharp pain in my foot made me feel miserable so I used to take a lot of ibuprofen. It didn’t really stop the pain but I’d become desperate as I’d already tried cortisone injections (excruciatingly painful), regular physio, plus a daily regime of stretching exercises which were recommended as the “ultimate fix for plantar fasciitis”.

One physiotherapist prescribed stretching my calf and plantar fascia by regularly swimming with flippers, so I also did this for several months, but the pain remained constant.

By the time I saw Tricia, I’d lost all hope of ever being free of the sharp pain in my foot. I felt as if I’d tried everything and I was cynical. It’s only because Tricia is such a kind person with an enormous amount of personal warmth, that she convinced me to try her Bowen therapy.

Tricia’s a skilled and professional Bowen therapist who also explains exactly what she’s doing with alignment, the different sequences of manoeuvres and the treatment pauses that helped my body to respond to her therapy.

Tricia’s treatment had a profound effect on my physiology and the pain I’d suffered for so long completely disappeared and never returned. It was life changing in all the best ways. Freed of the pain, it felt great to walk again and I quickly lost the weight I’d gained during the years of plantar fasciitis misery. – J. Penning, Innaloo, WA

I have received treatment from Tricia for a shoulder problem and a neck problem and both issues were very successfully treated within a few visits. A marvellous and lasting outcome. There is also an added benefit in that after a treatment, I leave feeling very calm and relaxed and would recommend the treatment if only to achieve the feeling of well-being. – K. Cook, Port Kennedy, WA
